Put it in here.
I go first, heh heh ... ..

Screw NBC.
Silverlight, Vista, Zip Code, Internet Provider, Browser, on and on it goes.

They dropped the ball before it was even put into play.

Microsoft probably paid a nice sum of money for being the privilege of dumping their beta software on the populous though.

Anyways I think we should figure out a way to get it working on Linux. The best solution I figured out so far was Windows on a VM.

There has to be somewhere else to view all this. There can't be only NBC on the entire internet streaming the Olympics! I think it's a disgrace, but hey it all adds fuel to my position of refusing to use MS products. This kind of exclusive crap is exactly why I won't use it anymore.

I posted a link up to the BBC earlier. Are they no good for this, rather than NBC? They seem to have some video on iPlayer there. Sorry I can't offer anything better. The Olympics isn't really my bag, though I respect that it's an amazing thing.

EDIT: Sorry it looks like the BBC's service is for UK only. It does work on Linux though. Sorry all. :(

Can someone try http://www.cbc.ca from outside Canada?

It works great to watch the Olympics from Canada on Ubuntu 64 bit but there is no easy way to tell if they are using an IP filter to block non Canadian IPs.

So NBC buys exclusive rights to coverage and MS determines who can see even that.
Nice! :)

While most of you douche bags are whining and ******* and moaning about how "EVIL M$ is, b/c OMFG they are using Silverlight"..

thousands of people lost their homes for these very games to take place:

priorotize your whining.. idiots. Go ahead, mods, warn me. I tire of the technology complaints about it when thousands were made homeless.

You realize that other countries are doing things that are approximately seventy bajillion times worse? I don't think everyone but China are saints, dude.

To be fair, most people probably didn't even know of this.
Since you knew, what did you do about it?
I bet you saved some homes.

I've tried Canada and it doesn't work including if I use a Canadian proxy to try to trick them. They still know I'm south of the border probably cause there's interactivity with the media player allowing it to full traceroute, I dunno, I sure wish Canada would work but NBC owns all broadcasting in the US

There IS China Central Television. I can't understand the announcers but I am watching Argentina vs Lithuania in basketball right now (woot)

here's an address for cctv5:

There's a link in a post of mine on a related thread to a page with that video embedded.

---------------------

Now that we're all done complaining at each other how about everyone does what I did: go to nbc.com and send them a feedback email. I told them straight up that I won't pay Microsoft for the privilege of watching live olympics, and since they didn't even have the common decency to provide a flash stream as well, I am boycotting all nbc broadcasts for the duration of the games.

If NBC hears that from enough people, maybe just maybe they will do the right thing and provide a flash stream in addition to the Silverlight nonsense... (you don't actually have to not watch nbc, just tell them you will. They won't know any better)

As one linux user stated:

Its a fitting match, actually. You've got an Orwellian government policing
what of the Olympics you can see, and you've got an Orwellian company
policing how you see it.
