I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04. When I logged in to the upgraded system, I discovered that Compiz had been switched off. When I tried to re-enable the system, it told me that "Desktop Effects could not be enabled". I have tried re-installing the entire Compiz system, yet to no avail.

My laptop is a Compaq Evo N1015v with an ATI IGP 320m integrated graphics card running at 64MB. I have 368MB RAM and an ATI Athlon XP running at 1.70 GHz and am dual-booting with MS-DOS 7.10

Try re-enabling your graphic card and see if it solves it.

How would I do that?

System > Administration > Hardware Drivers. Enable it in there.
