View Full Version : [ubuntu] Evolution Sends DAT Attachments

I have been told by some of the folks that I communicate via email with, who use Outlook 2002/XP, that attachments I send using Evolution are displayed as AT000.DAT files. It doesn't seem to matter what file type I send (PDF, DOC, XLS).

Does anyone have this issue and does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks,
Clay

Hi, not too sure on this.
Do you have "OpenOffice.org Database" installed?

If you open add/remove applications, and look for "OpenOffice.org Database", you get something along the lines of this:
OpenOffice.org office suite - database
OpenOffice.org is a full-featured office productivity suite that provides a near drop-in replacement for Microsoft(R) Office.
This package contains the database component for OpenOffice.org.

Im not sure if it will fix the problem, but it may help.
On the other hand, it may just be somehting that actually happens during the transite of the email due to evolution.

Do you have this with all attachments?
There is a bug concerning attachments having "non-ASCII-127" characters.
I personally also experienced problems with (quite) long filenames

This happens with PDF and Office docs file types that I know of, using English language. I've not tried sending gifs or other files. Pretty much sucks. Worked fine on 7.10 but 8.04 introduced this bug in Evolution. Ended up having to drop Evo and use Tbird. Can't use Evo if attachments get horked up - I'm a business user.

Correction: This only seems to happen when I send PDF and Excel files.

Anyone else seen this and know how to fix it?

Thanks,
Clay
