I have been trying to install Ubuntu on an IBM NetVista 2.5ghz proc, 40gb hd, 512ram. I am getting an "x Server" error. I'm new to this and am lost?

Try 'Safe Graphics' Mode
If not; try the Alternate CD

Same problem, it's failing to set up the x Server. This is a wiped system with no OS on it so I can't even get the CD to run beyond this warning. Do I need to download a newer version? I have an official CD of 7.04.

You need to install with the Alternate CD

Which version are you trying to install? If your are trying anything since 6.04 you should be able to start in safe graphics mode. Hit F4 at the menu and select safe graphics mode, then hit enter.
