View Full Version : [ubuntu] Slow web browsing and HTTP downloads

Hey open sourcey folks!

Recently did away with Vistard in favour of Ubuntu Hardy Heron on my HP laptop and I must say...bravo!

The problem I'm having is that web browsing and HTTP downloads are horribly slow (at best reaching 25% of my ADSL bandwidth). Even multi-threaded download managers can't seem to break this barrier.

The odd thing is that the Transmission bittorrent client consistantly gets to 100% of my available bandwidth, so I assume there is no problem with my connection (the same occurs whether I use wireless or ethernet connections)

I've tried blacklisting IPv6 globally and in Firefox and doing the OpenDNS trick, but no luck so far. ifconfig also produces no errors.

Could any of you linux geniuses help?
