I put the CD into the CD drive, then restart my computer.
as it restarts i can manage to get to the Ubuntu screen, however when i press on install, it does nothing but seems to freeze.
Is this a problem with the burnt CD or something else?

i have a toshiba laptop btw.

thanks in advance, alfie.

It might be the cd - have you checked the md5sum before you burnt it, did you check the cd for defects before you started it with the menu option.

Md5sums on this page - http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04/ and method to check here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto#MD5 Sums

Typically I download the .iso torrent using Deluge, then when complete I force a re-check to make sure it's all there... I also burn the .iso using Brasero at low speed (8x)...

Have you checked the integrity of the Ubuntu CD by running the verification function that is found on the initial Ubuntu boot screen menu ?

How much memory/RAM does you computer have ?

all done, i just burnt another CD which worked, it must have just been a crap burn, i had used my laptop to burn it and it didn't work, then for the second CD i used my desktop computer to burn the CD, and this did work.

I'm really happy with Ubuntu, it's great, and thanks everyone for the replys, all much appreciated.
