View Full Version : [kubuntu] KDE 4 and hot keys / remote / fn combos

Hi there,

I'm running an HP Pavilion DV6810US with Ubuntu 8.04, Gnome and KDE 4. I really like KDE 4 a lot, even if a lot of stuff are still missing. But having some troubles with all the "special keys" and other kind of not usual input, I have to use Gnome for convenience.

Here is the deal :

My hot keys (play / pause / forward / stop / volume... ) don't work with KDE 4, but with Gnome they do
Some of my FN keys (luminosity of the screen is the most annoying) don't work, but with Gnome they do
My remote, which has the same functions than the hot keys, doesn't work with KDE, but with Gnome it does

I tried to customize the keyboard shortcuts for the hotkeys, but that doesn't work... I spent a bunch of hours reading how to and forums, without any success so far.

So here are my questions, hoping you guys can help answering :

Are these problems due to a lack of features with KDE 4 ?
Would install a KDE-based distro (such as Mandriva) be better ?
Any other solution that I didn't think ok ?

Any help will be truly appreciated, since I really want to use KDE 4, but not being able to change easily the volume, or worse to change the luminosity of the screen, is a pain in the neck...

Thanks guys !

Paul
