There's likely a better place for me to post this, but I'd rather just come in here.

I'm really loving Ubuntu. I've switched from Windows but there's only ONE THING I absolutely cannot stand with Ubuntu--the media players it uses. I've tried a few of them and they just don't give me the experience that Windows Media Player 11 gives.

Most notably, the library. I love the way the library is assembled in WMP11, with the album art being the icons and all that.

So really I'm just asking, is there any program I'm missing that gives me a similar experience? I have 800 GB of music and I really am starting to miss the awesomeness of the WMP11 library.

amaroK

This spelling has been deprecated a long time ago. It just Amarok these days.

I'll +1 that recommendation for Amarok. I came to Linux from WinXP and one of the things I loved in Windows was how WMP (although version 10) let me manage my library. After trying all of the available players Amarok became my primary media player because it's library management is the best. It may not be able to use the album art quite the way WMP11 does, but there are many plugins that may do what you want. (I use the Avant Window Navigator plug that puts the cover art for the currently playing tune on my dock.)

You may also want to look into the combination of Music Player Daemon (MPD) and Sonata. Since discovering Sonata it's become the player I use on a daily basis, with Amarok getting used when I want to put together a playlist from a lot of different artists. (Sonata/MPD is a little slower for that task.)

Banshee is better than R.Box and Songbird. It works like Windows Media Player 11. Why no above mentioned players lack equalizers?

Banshee 1.2 has equalizer: http://banshee-project.org/download/archives/1.2.0/

As far I know, exaile does have an equalizer.

It does. In fact I like it's settings for Laptop Speakers/Headphones so much that I copied them into Amarok. It was a pain having to set each slider manually, but I used to work in a recording studio so I didn't mind it so badly.

mpc?

Haha, no.

The ones I tried so far are all pretty good.

Banshee, exaile, bmpx, songbird, ...

But my favorite one must be exaile.

(from the ones you seek).

I actually use sonata or mpc depending on in what mood I am.

I'm also checking out gmusicbrowser (http://squentin.free.fr/gmusicbrowser/gmusicbrowser.html) after seeing it recommended in another thread. I'm checking out different layouts and may make one myself but it looks pretty good so far.

Actually the only problem I've found with gmusicplayer is the overwhelming possibilities of making it fit your taste and the fact that I can't make it organize my files like I like in Amarok (Artist Initial/Artist/Album). But it is very, very customizable and superb if you finally have it working the way you want it to work. And if like me, you like to fiddle with such things...it's your player for sure.

(Previous Amarok fan-boy....awh who am I kidding, I'll always be a Amarok fanboy, I just hate KDE)
