Is there any project going on to produce Ubuntu Surface rival to Windows Surface? If so, 'Shark' would be the good name for that version. :)

Because it's a BEAST under the surface?
Because, to Microsoft, it's dangerous?
Maybe cause he was always afraid of Jaws as a kid, and he wants Redmond to share his fear? (Yes, that was a batman reference.)

I'm sure Microsoft has patented Surface extensively, and we wouldn't want to violate their intellectual property (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/not-ipr.html)!:lolflag:

I wonder what percentage of your posts on this forum is pitiful Microsoft bashing.

Me too. It's just so fun and easy. It's like making fun of Bush.
(But, btw, that post about being a beast was almost completely a joke.)

Am I the only one who thinks Surface has little real practical application? Why would one want to use it? I think that it is more of a gimmick.

I am not saying this because MS came up with it, rather it is the concept I find difficult to apply in the everyday real world we live in.

Multi-Pointer-X (MPX) is a variation of the X server to allow multiple pointer input devices (mice...)

Maybe. But what are you hoping to accomplish?

I'm all for fun and a good laugh.. but picking fights is basically counter-productive towards having a good day. Chillax.

When I was thought about Ubuntu Surface, suddenly shark came to mind. Because it is a famous beast with starting letter 'S'. Coincidentally, in most of the cartoons and movies, they used to show only the fin of the shark on the surface. When people see that fin, get scared and run away.

If Ubuntu Surface comes, Windows and Macs will run away :lolflag:

Be ready for 'Sharky Shark':lolflag:

+1

I don't really see the point of Surface. It looks cool but has little practical appeal.

I could say the same for Compiz.

No, of course I think there is a practical appliance to it. There should be an alternative to Microsoft's "invention".

Thats impressive!

I've just watched the video's, and it's impressive indeed, although I couldn't help but notice the beamer projecting the image onto the surface, and "artists'" arms.
I don't say it's fake, but projecting the image from below the "drawing board" probably conflicts with Microsofts intellectual property.

Although i've read posts in this thread that not all of you see some practical use, I myself on the other hand do see some use. I am a little short on examples at the moment, but I can imagine that there is pratical use. Maybe not people's homes rightaway, but for collaborating in companies, design sttudio's or schools, this can be of use.
It could for example play somewhat the same role as a smart-whiteboard, which can print of save the contents of the whiteboard. See, I did come up with an example.

True, I don't use Compiz either.
