the following are important prerequisites:

From Newegg (http://www.newegg.com)
Linux Compatible
Under $100 ($50 - $75ish)
USB!

i was hoping to find a linux compatible tv tuner...

also, if i have satellite, does that work with a tv tuner? i ask, because it has a set top box. can my computer extrapolate tv lineup info from a set top box? if it helps, i have dish network. its in standard definition, and will be used with windows media center primarily, and mythbuntu secondary.

Hauppage cards are one of the more linux compatible cards. check http://www.linuxtv.org/ , they have a decent list of the compatible cards

I don't know if it helps, but I have a MMPCTV100 which worked great out of the box but it doesn't have any good satellite in or interface port, it works only through composite input.
