A friend installing software RAID 5 on a machine over 3 disks failed (system freezing crashes on install) so he decided to try RAID 1 over two new disks. Upon this attempt he was told that the disks were already in use in a RAID 5 setup. These are blank drives and it's software RAID so is there even anything being written on the drives to make them a different RAID or is this a problem with the software that can/can't be fixed?
