Problem with Synaptic

First, I would like to say that I am recent convert to Linux and Ubuntu (Hardy Heron v8.04).

I was experimenting with some commands and I noticed afterwards that only installed packages showed in my Synaptic package manager. I cannot see any packages other than the ones that are currently installed on my system. How can I fix this?

So when you click on the all tab in the left pane of Synaptic, it still only shows installed packages?

You could also check your repositories to make sure they are enabled, then click reload.
