When i log in, gnome takes a long time to start, then i get an error message that gnome-settings-deamon wasn't started. Settings are not right at that point (eg different colors, different keymap,...) Then suddenly the log in sound starts to play, and the deamon must have kicked into action, because most things change to what they should be. It takes minutes before i can actually do something. I tried reinstalling the gnome-settings-deamon package to no avail. Anything else i can try?
