View Full Version : [ubuntu] Bad sound quality

I've been using Ubuntu 8.04 for over a month now, everything runs fine except for the sound. I checked a lot of threads on bad sound quality, but my problem seems different.

When I boot up and load movie player with a mp3, or Rhythmbox with an mp3, it works, but I get bad distortion from the left speaker (crackling)(they are Dell 2.1 speakers..)

But when I reboot, it sounds great. I've tried turning the speakers on before I boot up (since the subwoofer plugs in to USB, I thought it might need to be detected) and after, no change. It is very annoying to boot twice every time I use the computer. Anyone ever get this issue?

I don't think its a volume level problem since even at all max (pcm/master/front) when I reboot there is no crackling, only upon first boot. They are at 75% anyways.

Thanks

Dell 2.1's have a power output shielding deficiency, try keeping them further away from you computer.:(
