Microlab FC-530 http://www.microlab.cn/product/speakers/FINECone/530.htm
Logitech X-230 http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/208&cl=roeu,en

Here are the specs:

Logitech:
Total RMS power: 32 W RMS
Satellites: 2 x 6 W RMS
Subwoofer: 20 W RMS
Frequency response: 40Hz - 20kHz
It has a 5.25" sub.

Microlab:
Total RMS power: 54 W RMS
Satellites: 2 x 15 W RMS
Subwoofer: 24 W RMS
Frequency response: 20Hz - 20kHz
It has a 6.5" sub.

Microlab is cheaper but more powerful. I have personally tested the Logitechs and they sounded super. But Microlab is more powerful and cheaper. I really don't know. Has anyone got any experience with both of them? Which one has deeper basses? Which one sounded better overall?
Right now I'm 80% on Microlab and 20% on Logitech. But I need someone to convince me, which one is better.

All those speakers are crap. Get yourself a good amp & good speakers not from the computer industry.

I run a NAD 3020i + 2x Mission surround speakers for my PC.

I have the Logitech ones and are pretty OK. They are supposed to be the best cheap speakers on the market.

EDIT: one thing to note is that they have a very powerful subwoofer, maybe a little too much powerful.

That's true, of course. Hi-fi grade speakers are almost always better but more expensive and maybe more complex to setup and that's the reason why there is a separate market for PC speaker systems.

Try a pawn shop or second hand options.

I got my mom a set of Logitechs but they dont even come close.

I agree with mips, hi-fi separates are the best option.

Failing that, try a pair of these (http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/review/2007/04/19/Creative-GigaWorks-T20-2-0-Speakers/p1).

You can fix up a nice system by finding a secondhand amplifier from a car, should be nearly free if you look the right places. Same goes for speakers that will outdo those specified PC Speaker systems.

I have the X-230 and they deliver an amazing sound. Go for it!

Nonsense. The X-230 deliver an awesome sound. (this is coming from a (vinyl) DJ and audiophile with +10 years experience)

I live in an apartment so I can't really crack up my sound system.

So I just bought some €40 2.1 audio system for my computer.

The subwoofer plays basses just fine and the volume is pretty good.

It's an ednet. system.

personally I would avoid 'satellite speakers' altogether and get some 2/3 way speckres and a separate amp.
to me, satellites+sub always seems to lack something between lo frequency and mid frequency, hence high frequency's get overemphasised.

If you are short of cash, why not buld something yourself?

I have the Logitech Z-4 Speakers they are excellent. I tend to stick logitech as I never have any problems with it. I have a logitech webcam and a logitech laser MX3200 Keyboard and mouse too.

I would say go with logitech.

I have the X-230. They're pretty good for the price (I got mine on a good sale a while back). The subwoofer produces too much bass for my taste. Even if you turn the subwoofer all the way down, it's still pretty loud. Fortunately, I can knock the bass down with the ALSA mixer, so it's not a problem.
