Well, as the subject states, I installed PCBSD-7 Alpha3 on my IBM T60 laptop last night… basically so I could play around and see how it's progressing.

Well, I am pleasantly surprised. For being an Alpha, it's holding up pretty well so far.

PCBSD-7 Alpha3 is using KDE4(.1?) by default and so far it's looking and behaving very nice. Codecs were installed my default so I was able to play and watch my divx copy of Batman from my USB Stick.:guitar:

The WPI driver was installed by default so my ipw3945 wireless card worked with WPA encryption.

It was late and I didn't get a chance to test suspend, or my printer/scanner, but I will try that tonight. So far so good.

is it KDE only or does it come with other DE/WM too?

I'm not sure, I just picked the default Desktop install options, the other option was Server which is probably a minimalist environment.
I just checked pbiDIR.com and they have a PBI install of Gnome listed.

It's KDE but nothing stops you from installing whatever you prefer.

hmm, well yes, that wont be a problem, was just curious about the defaults. :)
I am not for alpha desktops though, hence maybe i will wait out atleast for the betas.

I believe that you can only have KDE as the PC-BSD since dev team decided to focus on only one DE. Although there is a PBI for Gnome but all the PC-BSD tools and such were designed for KDE and I've read on their forums of some people taking a performance hit.
