I just got to say that the tools, utilities, HOWTOs and programs you can get for Linux/Ubuntu are just awesome.
I'm trying my hand at building a simple lightweight gnome distro (if you can call it that) that can be used as a stand alone kiosk, suitable for classroom or the library setting. Using VMWare, Remastersys, and the lightweight Gnome install HOWTO I was able to burn my my first test LiveCD last night, and it all worked!!! I still have tons of work to get an Alpha version (artwork, splash screen etc.), but I know now that it can be done and I can do it.
As I research and try different things I'm finding out that a lot of programs and HOWTO's are the product of only 1 or 2 guys doing something for the love of it. And I think its so cool that a noob like me can take and use their work with relative ease.
