how do i install ubuntu linux if i have no operating systems? i am getting the cd

Insert the CD and switch on your system, the installer should boot like any other OS install, make sure you BIOS is set to boot from CD if you get any problems booting.

You don't need to have any operating systems installed to install Linux. Just follow the instructions above and you will be fine.

im tryin to install ubuntu linux to my laptop. i have windows vista home basic. i have downloaded the 64 bit version but i dont know wat application to open it with

You have downloaded a .iso image which needs to be burned to a CD. Use your favortie CD burning application and burn the image to the CD. Read the link that I gave you which is a very complete guide of how to install Ubuntu properly. Hope this helps!
