attempting to install ubuntu 7 on an xp hard drive

I did it on my computer months ago and I can't remember how I did it. I'm trying to walk my boyfriend through installing it on his computer and I can't remember the steps to partitioning it with an already partitioned xp drive. I know I did it successfully on mine but I can't remember what I did. Help?
