hey to everyone in the Ubuntu forum, this is my first time posting as i have just purchased the Linux Starter Pack and unfortunatley need assistance with a problem im having.

basically i had a 60gb hard drive which used to operate under Windows XP - to which i grew sick of - and so i have formatted this drive and installed Linux onto it. the problem occurs when i restart my computer (which is a laptop), sometimes i only just make it past the OS selection screen, others times to the point just before the username input box appears (when the screen turns to colour but no box is present).

the funny thing is that when it does "freeze", i dont loose control of the mouse so i suppose thats not classed a "freezing"?

im abit of a novice with computers so any help would be appreciated.

my system spec is:

SONY VAIO laptop
60 gb HDD
512 mb RAM
3.(something) processor

thanks,
geoff.

Which OS verison you tried? Ubuntu 8.04, Hardy?

try re-installing the OS.
