hi, this is my first computer, and i'm hooked! I am doing every possible thing since I got it 6 months ago, I even discovered Linux, I'm well on my way! I think I should start getting my feet wet in computer-speak. Python is it, but I haven't had much luck getting past page 1. I'm trying to teach myself, so my question is how can I teach this to myself? I was thinking a childrens tutorial but I can't find one. any guidance?

No, that book is designed for experienced programmers. Notice how it starts with installing Python followed by defining functions. A book for beginning programmers would probably start with variables and basic flow control.
I'd suggest that the OP look in the sticky for resources on Python. Both LaRoza and pmasiar maintain wikis that deal with the subject (see their respective signatures for links).

I agree. See my sig (and follow appropriate links, it will lead to pmasiar's wiki in two clicks)

this place is perfect for starters
thers 2 problems though
the first is the guy who wrote it uses windows so you have to work around what he says when its windows specific
and the second is its incomplete and you will have to find better sources after a while

wiki in my sig has selected links exactly for first-time Python learners like you, including training tasks.
I am surprised how many "experts" recommend "Dive into Python" for beginners - and **every time** it is argued against it, and those "experts" never learn... :-(
