I prefer emesene. Much less configuration to do and basically works from the get go, plus it supports personal messages where as aMSN doesn't (I think).

Emesene for me. Works well. Amsn is just ugly!

I use both. The main advantage to Amsn is that it has webcam. But I do like them both.

Which is best, emesene or aMSN?

If this question were in Community Café, I might give my opinion. But since it's in General Help, I think that the correct answer is to recommend that you try out both until you decide which one you personally prefer. There is also Kopete and Pidgin to try.

One vote for aMSN. This script (http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3242) will get you a aMSN you'll love.

Personally, I prefer emesene, simple and straightforward interface. aMSN just looks...bad, mostly because its written with tcl/tk.

It is now moved there.

In that case, I vote for Pidgin. ;-)

Emesene is prettier than aMSN though.

Emesene. It doesn't look ugly like aMSN and has a great now playing plug-in.

Here's a nice skin for aMSN:

I think aMSN is one of the few IM apps for Linux that really feels like one.
