View Full Version : [ubuntu] 8.04 liveCD hangs/stops/freezes during load

I am booting from the liveCD, and after choosing "English" and choosing menu item "Start or install Ubuntu" i goes to the next screen showing the Ubuntu logo and shows the bar going from right to left. But the bar stops before it goes full right.

It worked perfectly using 7.10.

I also tried to install it in windows, where it crashed.
I have downloaded the ISO 3 times, from different locations and tried 3 different dicsc now, so it should be the discs since they also all verified fine.

So any tips/tricks? - i am a linux newbie, and just really want to get away from Windows ;-)

Have you tried using safe graphics mode?

Yes and no change......

What if i installed 7.10, would it be possible to update to 8.04 from within 7.10? so i dont have to boot from the 8.04 livecd?

Yes that could work, but a clean install is always better.
I suggest using the alternate cd to install in text mode.

i'd suggest verifying your hadware settings. i had a similar issue when i started and it turned out that my old plextor cd burner was running in UDMA mode. When i changed the setting to PIO 0 in the BIOS, the installer ran. Also make sure your HDD is jumpered correctly, without using CS (cable select).
