I want to get my feet wet with Linux. I want a copy of Ubuntu which comes already installed in a Windows-compatible virtual machine if possible. The main factors are learnability and usability. I have Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 with 256 MB and a 2 gHz Celeron CPU, plus plenty of hard drive space.

Your advice?

With 256M of RAM, you are going to find it difficult if not impossible to run a VM with Ubuntu. You could try a Wubi install but, again, with 256M of RAM, I'm not sure if the installer will run.
