I have two dual boot XP/Hardy machines. Grub handles the OS selection perfectly well, except that on the newer machine, if I select XP, I get a prompt saying "Please select the operating system to start" and a second menu offering me a choice between "Microsoft XP home Edition" and "Ubuntu". The Ubuntu option is just that, no version number as there is in the first grub screen. If I select XP, it boots.
Menu.lst looks very similar on both machines, although the newer one has a "quiet" directive for each ubuntu load option. This is not any kind of problem, since I can still boot each OS, but I'm curious as to what is causing it. It's almost as though GRUB has some kind of disdain for windows & wants to ask "Are you SURE?" before doing something foolish like booting XP :)
