I wanted to show the kde desktop I built for my mom, so that when she uses somebody else's pc (which will probably have Windows) she won't be completely lost.

If you like the Royale window decorationyou can get it here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Royale?content=86002&PHPSESSID=51fc09ecd5099fb8d9031b73e92e811e

actually if your mom uses a windows computer... she'll still be dissapointed.

this "royale" desktop is much much nicer looking than XP. i like the shiny panel (i mean taskbar)

Windows XP Media Edition has a theme much like this.

That's because "Royale Blue" (the name of the real Royale theme) was developed for Windows XP Media Edition. ;)

I don't think she'd even realise what the filesystem is. I know if I said that to any of my parents, they'd give me a blank look

Thanks for the compliments. BTW I wish I could claim all the work myself, but I used a Windows XP theme that I downloaded as kind of a template I guess you could say. The menu that you see up is one that I am working on for KBFX. This is really only to give her an idea of what to do if she finds herself on a Windows machine, because there aren't (at least none that I've found) any menu applets that work anything like the Windows' Start Menu.

Yeah, if I told my mom there was a problem with the file system, she'd probably start cleaning out the drawers of her desk.

i like the shiny panel (i mean taskbar) lol

I wouldn't do that to my mother.

The xp theme is horrible. Blue and green, when did that ever match?

That being said, the theme imitates xp very good.

What if they set your mother in front of vista?

Don't forget the fact that if it doesn't crash every so often she'll get suspicious. ;)

Blue and Green should never be seen...clearly the guys at Microsoft never heard that saying.

And @dodle - you don't need to thank everybody who replies to your thread ;) Though I'm sure they won't mind

that screenshot did have me fooled for a second - i thought it was one of those custom themes you can get by hacking xp. it was only looking closely at the menu items that made me realise it was linux.

so is this definitive proof that kde is more windows like? :p

SWEET BIG BABY JESUS! BLASHPHEMING HAS BEEN TAKEN PART IN! VLC LOOKING LIKE WMP? OH THE HUMANITY! (Also, caps lock is cruise control for cool)

But seriously, that's really good work, very solid. It definitely looks like XP, better than a lot of XPesque themes I've seen. Almost good enough to win One (1) Free Internet.

That menu isn't the normal Gnome panel menu, is it? Is it some kind of special applet?

Theme details for this would be nice, if you did anything besides use the royale theme. i.e. the menu, fonts, etc.

And @dodle - you don't need to thank everybody who replies to your thread ;) Though I'm sure they won't mindSorry, I was behind on my thanking. I got a little carried away, it's my first kde theme and everybody was being nice (and funny).

I realized that my theme wasn't working so I uploaded a new package. It should work now, you just need to use dekorator.

Attached is a picture of my font configuration. I just used fonts from my XP installation. Here is a link to the Xbfx menu theme that I made: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Royale?content=86087 And there is a color scheme here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Royale?content=85991

Maybe somebody here can help me with this, nobody on kde-look has responded to me yet. One of the themes that I uploaded has the Windows logo on it. I'm wondering if I should remove it. I see other themes that have the logo on it. I'm not very knowledgeable about trademarks, copyright, etc. I don't want to get into trouble.

I'm going to remove it until I know for sure that's it's okay.

You can't legally (in the U.S. that is) include the Windows logo. Its best if you just remove it, then you don't have to worry about it.

The Royale theme has always been a favorite of mine though, its the only XP theme that looked right to me.

I would not worry too much about the logo. While you do not have a license to use it, you are basically giving Microsoft advertising for free, so I doubt they will mind. If they ask you to remove it, though, I would do what they say.
