Hello All,

While working on a problem that I am having with my printer commands ( they are all greyed out ) I inadertenly uninstalled a gaggle of things...all I wanted to do was to uninstall printer programs...cups and another one but did a lot more than that. All my desktop icons for firefox, skype, thunderbird and the like turned into white squares with an X in the middle. What the heck has happened?? Is this something terrible or what?

reinstall ubuntu-desktop
ubuntu ties everything together so you get screwed when you do simple things like that.

wont re-installing the desktop overwrite exsisting settings?

nope, just go into synaptic search ubuntu-desktop and mark it for install, it'll just put back what ever you removed that's part of ubuntu.

in terminal its:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
