can u plz explain me how to install ubuntu ........... I am having another os win xp and i downloaded ubuntu and burned in a cd and i booted with it and i installed manually with 20GB free space and i gave it as a primary boot loader and it installed successfuly and rebooted and then finaly it shows GRUB error line 17 & 18 can anyone plz help me

it means that saying "RTFM" is considered mean and that you should have read the Code of conduct. The reason why it was written as RT CoC was to show you how unhelpful it is.

Sorry about the RTFM comment. As for how to fix this can you please put that cd and boot into the live environment ( the one you used to click the install button). Then look in your new 20 GB ubuntu partition for the file /boot/grub/menu.lst. Please post that file here so that we can correct it for you.
