I am running Ububtu 8.04, as my only OS and I am having some issues with mounting my DVD drive as udf (X-Plane DVD #1). I also have to unplug my USB joystick, before I start Ubuntu 8, or it will not find it. I want to know if I install a prior version of Ububtu or XUbuntu would it correct these items? I downloaded the XUbuntu 7 ISO file and made the cd, but I can not get it to boot from the "Live CD".

Booting from a LiveCD is in no imaginable way connected to having a Windows install.

If you're Xubuntu CD doesn't boot, it's most likely a bad burn.

As for the issues you're having - a less recent Ubuntu release will usually not fix problems...

It helps if I put the CD in the CD drive and not the DVD drive. Sorry about that!!!!
