Hey,

I'd like to install Ubuntu on my computer. It is an HP Pavilion 720n. AMD 2.0Ghz, 512megs Ram. (Originally had XP Home.)

Anyway, I downloaded the Live CD from here, and burnt the image. But when I put it in my computer, it starts up, I go to install, it goes for a bit then stops on this page.

So I tried the Ubuntu DVD at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/current/
But then I get this message during install.

Then I tried the alternative text installer. It started out good, but then I got this error message.

Can someone please help me. I know this computer can run Linux since I'm typing this up from a Live Mandriva CD. I'd just like to try Ubuntu. See if its better before I settle down on a final Distro. Since I'm switching from XP.

Thanks for any help.

Try the Alternate CD. Better results all around with HP.

It looks like the OP tried the alternate installer disk.

@OP: did you check the md5sum of the iso before burning it as an image to cd? Did you burn at a slow speed (4x works for me every time)? I use CD-Rs, seem to work every time on all computers, some of which are, shall we say, "mature", and the CD-ROM drives handle CD-Rs better.

You are right. It looks like a bad burn.
