The Distro of the Beast has arrived - the first Ubuntu Satanic Edition Live CD is available for download!

http://ubuntusatanic.org/community/_thb_garry1.jpg (http://ubuntusatanic.org/screenshots.php)
[Parental Advisory - some explicit content]

It includes the complete Ubuntu 8.04.1 operating system plus the dark and brooding Satanic theme. There is also a 30 minute EP of creative commons licensed music from the likes of StabWounD, Auvernia, Frontside, Skaut, Taste of Hell, Scape.Goat and Holy Pain.

Click on the appropriate torrent to download the ISO:

Ubuntu Satanic Edition 666.4 i386 (http://ubuntusatanic.org/iso/Ubuntu_Satanic_Edition_666.4_i386.torrent) - will work on all PCs
Ubuntu Satanic Edition 666.4 amd64 (http://ubuntusatanic.org/iso/Ubuntu_Satanic_Edition_666.4_amd64.torrent) - 64-bit version

MD5 sums available here (http://ubuntusatanic.org/iso/md5sum-666.4) (what is this? (http://ubuntusatanic.org/md5sum.php))

Please help by seeding the torrent once you’ve downloaded it.

The hope is that the music may entice new users to boot the LiveCD and give the Ubuntu distribution a try. Conversely, people who are into Ubuntu may give the music a listen and like what they hear. We hope to spread Ubuntu and at the same time help up-and-coming artists who believe in freedom and have licensed their music as such.

Our goal is to use free software to promote free music and vice versa.

Do you know that "666" means "Everything goes very smoothly" in Chinese culture. Every chinese people want to get "666" number as their telephone number or car plate number. So Ubuntu Satanic Edition 666 means Ubuntu Satanic Smooth Edition? :-P

You've got a little mistake here:
http://ubuntusatanic.org/livecd.php
You've repeated the "Ubuntu Satanic Edition 666.4 i386 - 32-bit (works on all PCs)" text twice, but the 2nd point points to a 64bit download.
Please fix this up just in case someone downloads the 64bit version by mistake.

It looks fantastic - Mark Shuttleworth should be showing it off at OSCON.

this is a nice stick in the eye for the christian ubuntu edition. Well done! All we need now is a huge satanic lobby to meddle with our laws.

It's true that SE started as a response to Ubuntu Christian Edition. As the last I heard that project was on hold, it's kind of ironic that we're still going strong...

That's a pity because during the creation of this distro I actually gained a lot of respect for what Jereme and the Ubuntu CE team were trying to achieve. If if takes a Christian Edition to get more people to use Ubuntu then so be it. I now think that the world's a better place with Ubuntu CE in it and I look forward to having our old foe back on their feet for round two.

Hi LaRoza,

There are currently 24 leechers and just 4 seeds. It should speed up over the next hour or so:

Ubuntu 666? So owner, group and others only have read-write access to everything? No execute-privileges? ;)

It's funny you should say that because the theme for the next release of standard Ubuntu, Intrepid Ibex, is starting to look pretty dark.

It seems we've been setting a few trends... I mean, have you seen the horns on an Ibex (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Capra_ibex_ibex_–_03.jpg)? Impressive!

I tried that once on a VM just for a laugh. It didn't work very well after that...

So, does this come with any software to make the life of a Satanist easier? Ubuntu SE isn't equivalent to the other religion-focused distros until you can read excerpts from The Satanic Bible in it ;)

We aren't Levian Satanists. The only god we worship is Ronnie James Dio, the lord of rock! The only excerpts we'd include would be lyrics from Holy Diver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Diver).

I don't think it ever really got off the ground. If they're having problems, maybe we should give them a little distro to be getting on with. Gentoo or Damn Small or something. I'm sure the current communities wouldn't mind.

Links to "Ubuntu Satanic Edition" should come with expectations that the site will probably not be like Sunday school ;)

The links do not directly contain anything (and anyone booting the live cd will have a surprise anyway) and if we banned links to sites that have links to such things, we'd have to ban links to wikipedia.

I've added a warning to the link.

However, I don't agree that the slightest nudity warrants an 18+ rating. Go into any museum and you'll see hundreds of works of art more explicit than the Bathory image on the site.

I really love SE but Im not that thrilled that its on Harty. I think an upgrade is due. Im switching to Karmic but will manually install the SE packages cuz well, its just b*d*ss!

BTW if anyone knows of a Karmic Satanic Edition that would be very helpful indeed! I have been looking but havent found anything yet.

I wonder if the distro of the beast is aware of the mistranslation which lead to the incorrect figure 666. It should be 616.

Nice art work though

The music is licensed under creative commons, so is freely distributable as long as the terms of the license are met. There are a number of licenses, each dealing with the rights of attribution, commercial use and derivatives.

The music in SE is all metal. From punkish to progressive.

I just learn about those other religious distros. That's really cool. Especially how Christian or Muslim editions provide users with different tools for prayers, religious studies or other things (I guess it will remind all those religious geeks to get off from a computer once in a while :D ...jk)

But I found it very very good, actually. Really good idea behind all this.
