View Full Version : Which panel do you use?

I'm using xfce4-panel right now, but I'm not sure that I like it. I was thinking about switching and began wondering what everybody else was using. Which panel do you use/like the best? I listed the ones that I found in synaptic and some from freshmeat.net. I could only post ten so if you have one you like that's not listed please talk about it. I didn't list any dockers/dock stations (whatever they're called) 'cuz I'm not interested in them right now, but go ahead and mention them if you like.

Is that like a tiling window manager?

(I use xmonad, no panels)

I don't use a panel. I don't see the point of having one.

Instead of a panel, I like using Tint + stalonetray. That way I have all my tasks listed, plus all my tray icons, which is all I would want from a panel anyway.

Otherwise I use XFCE-panel. It has some pretty nice plugins.

Either the built-in Fluxbox panel or none.

I use XFCE complete with it's panel most of the time, but sometimes I use fbpanel with openbox, IceWM and it's panel, or sometimes no panel at all.

If I was to choose a standalone panel it would probably be fbpanel because of it's menu and relatively easy configurability.

GNOME-> Gnome Panel
Openbox-> Tint+Trayer (no panel)

What is xmonad?

It is like wmii in most ways. It is a tiling window manager.

Catchy name for a panel :-)

Recently tried openbox on my home desktop and liking it so far. I got pypanel but I am wondering if the other alternatives are better. Hmm..

Gnome-panel, when in GNOME. Otherwise it's either pypanel or no panel, depending on whether I need a system tray/notification area.

I use openbox without a panel, but I use a tray (stalonetray) because it's the only part of a panel, other than a clock (which conky handles) that has any use for me.

I voted kicker, but I like KDE4's kickoff a bit better.

(I don't know why... a lot of people seem to hate it, but it's nice once I set my favourites - plus you can search)

Learning it :-)

I just watched Lage Rahe Munna Bhai today; a very good movie. I could understand some of it.

Gnome-Panel in GNOME, PyPanel in Openbox.

Gnome Panel, tweaked after nearly a year of trial and error.

I have pretty much the default panel at the top. I would prefer to optimize my layout for widescreen use, but side panels with text never seem to work well for me.

Deleted all the Gnome Panels I use Awn (Avant Window Manager)-[I don't think Awn is a panel right?]

when i used panels i liked the default Gnome panel (simple enough to get things done)

I have AWN set to take over everything. GNOME-panel is there, used only when really needed.

Tint or the Fluxbox panel. I see neither listed.

I use Xfce and it's panel system. My experience between different panel systems is quite limited (Xfce and limited Gnome exposure), but I know that Xfce can use gnome panel applets, through XfApplet, so I don't really understand why anyone would just use gnome's panel system... but like I said, I haven't a clue.

I use pypanel with just the system tray. I use pypanel, tint2, visibility and conky across the bottom so it kinda looks like a panel.

Okay, I've done some messing around with panels, desktop environments and such; and I've decided to put my vote in for Kicker panel. I'm beginning to like KDE.

xfce-panel (which is hidden most of the time) for the plugins and system tray + tint2

Plasma (KDE4). Not on the list, so I put lxpanel, my panel that I use when I use Openbox (pretty often).
