so after a small amount of research and a little elbow grease i know have a pretty sweet conky and also my terminal running as part of my backround. what i want to know is whether or not that is a program or way to have a torrent downloader that runs on my backround similar to what i have as my terminal and my conky.

I'm just sort of taking a shot here but rtorrent + aterm might accomplish what you want.

rtorrent is a command line program and aterm can be used for transparency. (I'm not sure if rtorrent will make use of the transparency or not but it's worth looking into)

I was also thinking rtorrent (my favorite torrent client irregardless). Since you have a terminal for wallpaper, maybe run rtorrent in that.
