Depending on the kind of graphics card or integrated graphics solution installed on your computer, there are different steps involved in preparing them for a 3D composited desktop.

Some graphic card manufacturs that support Compiz Fusion:
* ATI Radeon Series
-R100 to Radeon 7000/newest

* Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Series
-works with graphic cards with at least 64 MB of memory/drivers have to support X Composite extension

* NVIDIA GeForce Series
-works with graphic cards with at least 64 MB of memory/drivers have to support X Composite extension

-->What you need to look for in a graphics card in order to run Compiz Fusion,Compiz will only work with graphic cards with at least 64 MB of memory, and whose drivers are capable of supporting the X Composite extension and the GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap OpenGL extension. But even if the required extensions are not supported by your card's driver, software solutions such as Xgl may be able to provide them.
