Hi all

Just a quick question. When I try and restart Hardy, everything seems to be going fine, the screen eventually goes blank (laptop is not off though, fans still running), but then never comes back on.

Any ideas?

does this happen every time? If it dosent then I dont know if there is a fix. You could always just press left_alt+SysRq+B but thats just a hard reboot.

It does it every time, suppose I'll just shut down and restart manually.

instead of alt+sysreq+b, you should use alt+sysreq+reisub. That is, press and hold alt+sysreq, then keep holding them and type (slowly) r e i s u b . Each one of these keys does a different thing that will prepare your computer to shut down a little bit more safely, such as doing an emergency unmount, and syncing filesystems. This key combo ALWAYS works, even on a system that is completely hung and non-responsive.

Both of those methods ends up with a blank/off screen but laptop still running.
