Huawei E172 - Vodafone USB Modem Stick

Is there an Ubuntu guide to getting this working?

I have found this one for the Huawei E220 (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto/Huawei) but is this the same process?

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu so I apologise in advance but I have got stuck with the install of this:

How to install??
Extract file
cd to the directory
make
make install

I've extracted the file to desktop. In the terminal I have cd'd to Desktop.

When I do make he220-pclos-mandriva it says that there is nothing to be done.

When I do make install he220-pclos-mandriva it says no rule to make target 'install' stop.
