Lost sound on Dell E1505

I'm using Hardy Heron on a Dell E1505. I recently installed some new sound mixing programs and lost sound on the laptop. This is not the first time something like this has happened. The problem is I have not the slightest clue how to replace the necessary drivers for my sound card. My windows system identifies my sound card as being manufactured by sigmatel, however I don't know that model number or anything like that. Short of reinstalling ubuntu, I don't know where to begin fixing my computer. Can anyone help?
