There is a rumor going around. If true, it could effect the Internet, computers, and Linux. Can you tell me if it's true or false?

Bell Canada and TELUS, Canada’s two largest Internet service providers (ISPs), will begin charging per-site fees on most Internet sites according to anonymous sources within TELUS.

Source where I got the rumor:

And how long would they remain the largest ISP once/if this is ever implemented? - Customers would rapidly disappear I Think.

Is there competition? There are many areas in the United States where there is only a single Internet Service Provider available. I don't know a lot about Canada's Internet service situation.

There are several alternatives to Bell and Telus in Canada.
And I call BS on this. There's no way they'd get away with this for long even if they did try it.
Also, I'm pretty sure this is very old "news".

You're getting this from the same trusted, reliable source who also claims the US and Canada want to make Vitamins a prescription drug:

http://www.americanfreepress.net/html/vitamins_prescription_drugs_14.html

And, who claims that Obama is tied to the illuminati:

http://www.americanfreepress.net/html/obama_secret_ties.html

Yeah, this site is real authoritative. :lolflag:

Just an update: If you read through this dreck, you'll find that the entire article is essentially based off a blog post:

http://ipower.ning.com/netneutrality2

The author of which based THEIR assumptions on this:

http://www.telusmobility.com/on/wweb/wirelesswebsites.shtml

ZOMG! ALL of these sites are ALREADY on a PAY PER USE BASIS?!

Well, no. While the article uses this link to make people THINK it's so, the "pay per use" reference here refers to Telus Mobility's wireless data access:

http://www.telusmobility.com/on/wweb/wireless_web.shtml

On Telus' cell phones, you can either pay-per-use to access web pages, or pay $7 a month for unlimited access. Which is not uncommon in cellular network access these days. You either pay by the page/kilobyte/minute, or you get a prepaid/postpaid plan.

Does this mean an ala carte internet model is in the works for wired broadband connections? It's a bit of a reach, if you ask me.
