This isn't a ubuntu specific fault (hence its not in the suppport catagory), just a general hardware fault that I can't be bothered to register for some hardware forum yet. Plus I'm hoping there are some hardware gurus roaming around here somewhere.

The monitor in the background is mirroring the laptop display. As you can see the display is borked, looks funny and delayed.

Whilst I was trying to troubleshoot this problem, the suddenly worked properly. Then I restarted and went back to the borked state. Also I tried ubuntu livecd so its a software problem.

A loose cable or damaged screen hmmm... Hopefully the former.

I think the former is cheaper to fix as well.

How do I go about repairing this? The warranty had expired I think.

If the external display is ok, could be bad cable connecting that LCD. That is not unheard of.

I would take a can of compressed air and clean out the inside of the notebook. And then re-seat the LCD connector cable inside.
