Fluxbox loss of sound?

ubuntu 8.04 default gnome, installed fluxbox via aptitude. I just noticed I have no sound. Does gnome have something on start up that I've missed in the fluxbox startup or have I missed something in my configuring of fluxbox?


I've done a search but nothing related has come up.

I am not overly familiar with Gnome tools, but I have "kmix" running to provide a sound icon in my panel. I mouse over it, and scroll-wheel up or down to change my volume. You can also open up the kmix mixer window to individually slide things like the master, PCM, line in channels and such.

Maybe such a tool would help you veify you don't have any channels muted or set very low?

Alsa worked. Not prefect but its better then no sound.
