I'm still getting my head round the upgrade from Gimp 1.2, that I've been using for years! I think I can wait a bit! :D

As for backports, I'll hold off until I see Sid or Hoary packages: http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?searchon=names&version=all&exact=1&keywords=gimp

I'm getting the Window$ version http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html...

Crap, I even downloaded this (http://gladewin32.sourceforge.net/) and it still wouldn't work. Could someone please link me to the GTK I need to download?

Strange. The one on the download page is the one required. Works for me...

The GIMP 2.4 sucks big time! All it does is freeze up on me. I'm finding a copy of 2.0 fast!

I'm just going to use 2.0. I don't think the new versions of The GIMP are worth installing when the old versions do everything I want to do anyway. Plus the fact that I can not take ANY RISKS with this computer since my dad is tired of it crashing when I install tons of software on it. When I get my Linux box I'll give 2.2 a try...

I compiled my GIMP 2.2 from source and it was a long, painful ordeal. I don't want to have to do that again just for a bugfix upgrade =/ Is it possible for 2.2 to be "upgraded" to 2.2.1 without reinstalling anything? Just an addon you compile?

No, but:

1) there are LOTS of bugfixes
2) I'm gonna compiling it, as an ex slackware user, it shouldn't be so difficult..

Tell me, it's only a "checkinstall" matter or i must follow other steps to get deb packages for the public?

EDIT: I just made a .deb for anyone that wants 2.2.1... if you have problems installing it (i did for somereason), do a

dpkg -i --force-all gimp-2.2.1-1_i386.deb && dpkg -i gimp-2.2.1-1_i386.deb for somereason it conflicts with ubuntu's gimp, and won't install cleanly without the --force-all (i do a second -i, just to be safe)

anyway, here's the deb http://home.comcast.net/~amsilveira/gimp-2.2.1-1_i386.deb , I'll keep it up for a week or so. I've also got a deb for blufish 1.0preCVS if you're interested i'll host that in a week or so.

PS- if someone has webspace/server space i can use... for a minimal fee (i.e.... free, since i'm a broke college kid :-( ) please let me know.

man the simpson's aren't on tonight :-( .

Thanks.

i took that down the day after christmas, because i'm only allocated 25megs on my comcast account, and i'm behind a router/ dhcp/firewall, so i can't turn my other compy into an apache server (my other roomie has a server up using our ip), as much as i'd like to, i might start an FTP server though. I don't think anyone has a mirror.

Last time i checked, 2.2 was ported into apt-get hoary's mutiverse/universe... try that. If you despritly need a new version, i'm thinking about building a new one based on 2.2.1.... I was on vacation, so i have a lot of catching up to do.
