View Full Version : Welcome new mods!

The forum just got a bunch of new moderators.

I'll leave it up to y'all to find out who, and I am sure they will post as they see this.

Tell them congratulations and be nice to them for now; it takes a while to develop the thick skin needed to deal with the forum.

We can kind of, but you're right, only admins can do proper banning. And acelin - it is all light-hearted. We're allowed to relax some time, we're not all borgs (read: LaRoza)

I think when mods step down they just go inactive although they still have a red name. Kind of a testimony of their help to the forums. There are a handful of users with red names with very low activity. I believe these are mods who have stepped down either temporarily or permanently.

They typically don't do it publically, and we don't make a big deal of it.

The Dark Knight is a cinematic masterpiece - Heath Ledger better win an oscar. The movie is SOOO dark, it should definitely be rated R (but it's good that it's not). I am going to see that movie tomorrow night for the third time. I saw a pre-screening last Tuesday in IMAX. I swear, somebody put excrement in my pants!
I see no need to ever see another movie again.

Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a Dark Knight...

We can. 15 points infraction means ban, no matter how we give the points, all at once or little by little. But only admins can change the usergroup to the "burnt bean" one, and thus change the profile image :)

The Beginners Team (BT) is rising ...

Thank you to to the entire team. BT members contribute greatly to the forums, wiki, launchpad, and many become Ubuntu Members. All are welcome, so if you are interested in becoming active with the BT see this link (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=385084).

The BT is a vehicle to contribute to Ubuntu and not a way of becoming a moderator. Moderators are selected based on their contributions to the forums and their good natured, welcoming spirit of these forums.

Congratulations to Joeb454, Oldsoldier2003, overdrank, Rocket2DMn, and vor.

This is true. When you become moderator they take you out behind a bar and beat you until you agree to be in BT. That's why most of the admins are BT members.

Some things just don't add up.

Rocket2DMn

Actually they beat us anyway - it was a daily routine for awhile. My back is still recovering, but at least it puts us in the mood to infract people. Speaking of which, 1 pt infraction for you because you reminded me of the beatings.

Wow. I'm glad I was part of the BT before becoming a mod then. That doesn't sound pleasant at all. ;)

In reality, becoming a member of the BT is in no way a stepping stone to becoming a mod but, the philosophies of the BT and the Staff overlap in many ways so, it should come as no surprise that members of the former group would be invited to become members of the latter.
