Is GRUB's name, Grand Unified Bootloader, intended to parodize the term "Grand Unified Theory" from physics?

no/yes:

GNU GRUB developed from a previous package called the Grand Unified Bootloader (a play on grand unified theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_unified_theory)). It is predominantly used on Unix-like (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix-like) systems; the GNU operating system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_operating_system) uses GNU GRUB as its boot loader, as do most general-purpose Linux distributions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_distribution). Solaris (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_Operating_System) has used GRUB as its bootloader on x86 systems since the Solaris 10 1/06 release.

I only realised the other day that Debian's codenames (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian#Releases) are all Toy Story Characters

Probably a parody, not a Para-dody.

You're right it doesn't. It must be the way the reply box works. It seems to work with the advanced reply option

i'm not sure if parody is the correct word.

more a kind of nerdy in-joke reference than anything.

A play on words is probably a more fitting description.
