View Full Version : [ubuntu] MKV subs crash my system

I can play MKV's in VLC no problem. They just come up without subs on. I turn the sub on... everything goes to hell. The video lags, and audio gets glitchy, my mouse flys all over the place and I have to exit the program via the System Monitor (Xing the window does not end the glitch).

It is driving me nuts. Can anyone help?

Sorry for the bump but I've tried every google combo I can think of and I still haven't found an answer...

Have you tried using another player, i.e, MPlayer, to see if that alleviates the problem.
One thing to keep in mind with soft-subs, is that they need to be rendered onto the video stream which requires some CPU cycles.
Also, with respect to the mkv file, what is the video codec used and the resoltion of the video? High resolution H.264 video requires significant processing power to play without dropping frames and tearing.

Apparently MPlayer works just fine -_-

Anyone have any ideas how I could fix VLC though?
