Phew! Finallyt got pasrt that weird letter thingy and managed to register!

Hi, I'm trying to find an alternative to Windows Media Centre! I recently purchased a Sony VGX-TP1E Media Centre PC and found it was not all it was creacked up to be. I have many years IT experience but I must say that Vista is a royal pain. My remote doesn't work (unless you power everything down and disconnect from the power) and the Sony Centre is refusing to refund or replace. Baiscally I feel I've spend 500 on a dud but I want to salvage something from this.

I'm told that Ubuntu is the way to go, but what software can you use to replace the WMC? Will the drivers in Ubuntu support the hardware? Just seen the Multimedia & Video howto. Do I really need to do all of that?

Try Mythbuntu (MythTV on Ubuntu) http://www.mythbuntu.org/
First download and try the LiveCD.
If you like it, install.
Maybe you would like to read the wiki from the mythbuntu website

Good luck,
Dan

Mythbuntu is very powerful but it is not a trivial exercise to get it all going, especially sound.
