Hi
I would like to update my 7.10 to 8.4 but it says it will take 8hrs. Is there a way to do this from the 8.4 CD?

Thanks

Check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades on various ways to upgrade. Use the alternate cd if you want to run the upgrade offline.

put the 8.4 cd in with the system already booted, explore the cd, there is an option on the cd to upgrade from the cd. once the sys has upgraded from the cd, you have to change your sources to the repositiories on line to get the updates.

I get my cd's in the mail as upgrading online is not for me, I am limited to 350 meg a day download so i do my upgrades when the newest ubuntu come with my mag subscription.

updating packages online is ok though.

If you havent solver your problem yet...
From inside for Ubuntu 8.04 disc, click install. There should be an upgrade option!
All settings and files will be saved
but Ubuntu should update its self. Post back if it doesnt work. :D
