My keyboard is a disgusting, filthy mess. I almost did the dishwasher trick until I read from most articles that it usually leaves your keyboard useless.

However, it does work sometimes so I may give it a go.

I can grab another keyboard from work...:))
Whenever I have a spill on my keyboard or other simple devices, I give them a good bath in 90% Isopropyl(Rubbing) Alcohol. By bath, I don't mean actual submersion because that would be expensive and wasteful for large devices like a keyboard. I do, however, douse the device liberally with alcohol. Using 90% will be strong enough to dissolve and wash away the sticky sugars, displace moisture and evaporate fairly quickly. If after the keyboard has dried and there are still some sticky keys, work the sticky out by repetitively pressing those keys. A second bath maybe in order. A couple $1 bottles of alcohol is a lot cheaper than replacing your favorite keyboard.

I had first heard of this method as a LAST DITCH EFFORT to revive a cellphone that has been dropped in water. With battery-powered devices, the first step is to remove the power, ie battery, etc.

I have found this method very useful for keyboards and have used it several times on the keyboard I'm using now. ;)

Nice observation. :) But then I really try to avoid such articles, unless they are "controversial" and "interesting" enough (for me anyway) to include in the lists I post. That is also the reason why I don't read the articles of Boycott Novell. Anyway, I do appreciate the feedback. :)

That is mainly why I focus on Katherine Noyes' articles, as these are often the topics her articles delve into.

Hello guys...

I though it is good to start a thread like this one.

If you know other good links to read, just post 'em here.

You can also put your reactions here.

Holy cow Shippou, I just realised you've been at this for 2.5yrs and that's what I call dedication!

I would like to thank you for posting the links, I really enjoy reading the articles you link to. It's like a nice summary of stuff to look at which I enjoy.

Once again, thank you very much!

First of all, sorry for the late post. The past few days have been very busy, examinations and such.

Thank you very much. Actually, I have subscriptions, and I thought, well it is a waste not to share some of the things I find interesting in them to the community, so the thread. :)

I'll just pipe in and say I really enjoy these too :)

Could you toss in stuff from linuxtoday as well?

Yes, I'll try to post items from them, but I cannot guarantee that.

As usual, please be aware of the dates these articles were posted. I do try to post only time-insensitve articles, but of course there are some articles which are time-sensitive that can get included, such as some security updates, kernel updates, and such.

I've dropped PCWorld after reading some of the Articles they come up with now. Honestly, their tech people have to be idiots with some of the articles they write.

Nice job for linking articles, I keep forgetting about lockergnome - I usually use the register, linux.com, engadget, and omgubuntu =D

Guy's not too bright if he thinks he can fairly compare minimum requirements for a nearly 11 year old operating system with those of ubuntu. Complaining that ubuntu barely runs on a 4GB SSD? Windows 7 requires literally 5 times that amount. Seriously, vista came out in '06; this is like someone asking why it takes more resources to run than windows 95. If you're going to be running it with a measly 4GB of disc space, you should either put your /home directory on a 32GB flash drive or SD card, or get more damn space. </rant>

Guy's not too bright

No kidding! He is terrible.

The number of people who still regularly use netbooks is probably tiny. They were a trendy item among early adopters, and I suspect those are the same people who've moved on to tablets for their small-mostly-entertainment-but-really-mostly-sitting-in-a-drawer-machine needs.

He obviously never heard of students or researchers who need to go to libraries or archives and desperately need a kind of a lightweight typing machine. Or people who travel a lot and work on the go. Netbooks are ideal for this, while tablets are useless.

So I keep my netbook... It shipped with some commercial Linux on it that I didn't care for.

The name is Xandros. Is it so hard to remember?

So when Ubuntu gave me popups about upgrades, I said sure, do whatever you want.

Well, it's always a good idea to think before you act. To see how much empty space you have on your SSD and to check how much extra space will be required for upgrades.

And yeah, comparing Ubuntu to Windows XP in 2011, when you can't even officially get Windows XP, is just nuts.

Hello.

First of all, sorry for the two weeks of no updates. I think this will go on for the rest of the year, since I have a job and therefore cannot find the free time I previously have to read online articles.

Thus, for the meantime, I request that others post links here they like to share.

Also, as a temporary substitute, you can read and/or follow my blog here:
http://quintophilosophy.wordpress.com/

Sorry for the blog promotion, but this is what I can temporarily offer.

Good day, everyone. :)
