Is there a feature of Compiz that can blur the semi-transparent areas of windows, like in Vista?

Thanks

I've tried messing around with the blur plugin, but it doesn't work. No, I don't want focus blur, that causes too many problems. See attachment (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=78221&d=1216442526). The blur plugin also causes extreme lagging of other compiz effects (IE: viewport switching like desktop wall.) The lagging also occurs even on 2 GB RAM machines.

Does anyone know how to do this? I don't have any lag problems with the blur plugin, just that anything other than focus blur doesn't work.

Window trancparency is theme related i think, and turning on blur in compiz will make that transparency blur whats behind it...

you can turn on something like trail focus to test it...

the blurring effects (shadow) can be activated and customized under Windows Decoration in CompizConfig Settings Manager.

I'm sure this post is long dead, but hey. ;)

In CompizConfig Settings Manager, go to Effects, Blur (don't activate it yet), then set "Blur Filter" to Gaussian, leaving everything else as it is. Now activate blur (checkbox).

Hope this helps someone.

Ummmmmm gnome-panel does not support transparency properly. If you want a transparent panel, get another panel or switch to xfce/kde.

Personally, I use GNOME, but not gnome-panel.
