Is the drive mounted? And can you view files on the cd in nautilus?

Nautilus is the gnome file manager. Open up the file manager, browse to where the cdrom is mounted (/media/cdrom0 on my computer) and see if you can see the files on the CD there.

What did you remove?
And what does not work?
Does this apply to any cds/dvds or only with special ones(VCD/Movie DVDs?)

Make sure the CD is in the drive, then open a terminal and type
mount. This will give a list of all mounted devices and where they are mounted. Post the results here

I'm not sure why the cdrom is not mounting automatically but you can mount it with
sudo mount /media/cdrom0 from a terminal

I have the same problem (and the same fstab) and when I try to mount an Audio CD it reports, "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0"
