I just tried to upgrade a DELL 1525 running Gutsy to Hardy 8.04.1 using the 8.04.1 ALternate CD. I did install all the available updates in Gutsy first. And yes, the md5sum for the Alternate CD is okay.

The Alternate CD did run and started to do its job. It was at the "software channels mode" when it just quit and disappeared.

It really messed up the Guysy install. When you used Synaptic it wanted to uninstall lost of packages!.

So I have reinstalled Gutsy using the Dell reinstall partition.

I would like to use Hardy. What should i do next?

Are others having problems with the 8.04.1 Alternate CD when upgrading from Gutsy?

FYI - I gave up on the upgrade and just did a clean install of Hardy. Then I followed the instructions on the Dell Linux wiki on how to install the dial up modem driver.

Everything seems to work.

Glad to hear your system's working maverick88. I find clean installs to be very painless.
